How Coram Shakespeare Schools Foundation can help overcome language barriers for EAL students
Shaking Up the North: Coram Shakespeare Schools Foundation and Shakespeare North Playhouse join forces in new partnership!
We are delighted to announce that Coram Shakespeare Schools Foundation has partnered with Shakespeare North Playhouse to bring a thrilling cultural education experience to the schools of Knowsley. The partnership will see hundreds of local young people perform in the Cockpit Theatre (below) as part of our annual Theatre Festival, giving life to Shakespeare’s timeless stories on a professional stage. Celebrating their inaugural season, 15 schools will be the first to take to the stage between 14th – 18 November 2022.
Mike Tucker, Head of Coram Shakespeare Schools Foundation, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Shakespeare North Playhouse to deliver world-leading cultural experiences for the people of Knowsley.
We share a commitment with Shakespeare North Playhouse to bringing high-quality, impactful arts opportunities to young people in and around Knowsley.
On stage and under the lights, Coram Shakespeare Schools Foundation and Shakespeare North Playhouse will bring together children of all ages, backgrounds and beliefs to share in a love of culture and the performing arts. Delivered by the young people of Knowsley, for the people of Knowsley, our partnership will develop and cement the borough’s place as a key hub for the arts across the North West.”
Inspired by Prescot’s historic connections to William Shakespeare and a love of storytelling, the Shakespeare North Playhouse will play a key role in the ongoing regeneration of Knowsley; a place full of brilliant people with a story to tell. Through the partnership, Shakespeare North Playhouse will become the first Shakespearean theatre to open its doors to Coram Shakespeare Schools Foundation’s young participants, delivering a transformative experience which will build confidence, creativity, and resilience.
Melanie Lewis, Executive director of Shakespeare North Playhouse said: “It’s a joy to join Coram Shakespeare Schools Festival as a Shakespeare North Education Partner. Engaging young people in the arts through taking them out of the classroom and letting them experience the magic of a theatre is integral to developing an interest and love of culture. I can’t wait to see where this new Education partnership takes us.”
